If there’s anything to learn from the reactions Batman v Superman received online, it’s that critics are not above reviewing a film with a biased opinion. Rotten Tomatoes, a site that has become the go-to ratings system for many, is extremely guilty of that in the case of BvS. Sitting at 29% as we speak, Batman v Superman is currently rated below some of the worst films ever reviewed. And while the movie certainly has it’s flaws, there is no doubt that some of the films above it are absolutely horrendous. But instead of looking at all of the panned films that BvS is rated lower than, let’s narrow down the list to only comic book films. Not all of the films are considered awful by fans, and some actually have a cult following, but they are mostly considered atrocious by critics. So to expose how unreliable Rotten Tomatoes has become, here’s a list of panned comic book films with a higher score than Batman v Superman.

  • Batman Forever 41%
  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine 38%
  • Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer 37%
  • Daredevil 44%
  • The Shadow 35%
  • The Green Hornet 43%
  • Tank Girl 38%
  • The Phantom 43%
  • X-Men: The Last Stand 58%
  • Superman Returns 76%
  • Spider-Man 3 63%
  • The Amazing Spider-Man 2 53%
  • Iron Man 2 72%
  • Iron Man 3 79%
  • Hulk (Ang Lee’s version)  61%

There are a lot of comic book films ranked below BvS as well. However, some of them come extremely close to it. Green Lantern and Ghost Rider are only a few points away. But the biggest surprise is that Ang Lee’s awful interpretation of the Hulk has a percentage that is way above what it should have. It just goes to show that movie goers should avoid using critic responses as a way of determining if a movie is worth viewing or not. Because in the end, your opinion and interest in a film is what matters the most when you spend your hard earned money on it.
